Vietnam Travel Guide

Written by Keith Hancock
1. Crossing the street in Saigon
On the face of it, this must seem silly to someone who has never been. But if you have never seen Saigon traffic, you have never seen traffic. Millions of motorbikes are on the streets of Saigon everyday and if you want to get across there is only on way. The traffic never ceases, so waiting is not an alternative. Pick a line, hold your hand in the air and stroll across, it works, honest!
2. Going to Halong Bay
No trip to Vietnam could ever be complete without witness this 600 square mile paradise. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is simply awesome. One thousand nine hundred and sixty limestone island jut imperiously from the water to provide a different vista every few minutes.
3. Having clothes made in Hoi An
Literally hundreds of tailor shops line the steers of this pretty town on the east coast. Go in early morning, get measured, choose your fabric and your design and the night after you can be seated in a fabulous restaurant looking like a million dollars at a fraction of the cost in the West. Suits, shirts, dresses and blouses, just about anything you want, they’ll make.
4. Trekking in Sapa
Strolling about through the picturesque mountainous region of Sapa will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. The rice terraces carved into the hillsides have left an indelible mark on the landscape, and it is the most picturesque place imaginable.
5. Exploring the Mekong Delta
Where the mighty Mekong exits into the sea, 17 million people live and work the land. It is a myriad of streams, rivers and islands all connected by on magnificent force of nature. The Floating markets, handicraft workshops and fruit farms will enthral you whilst the people will will capture your heart.
6. Rent a bike in Mui Ne
This seaside spot in the south of the country is a great place to rent a bike and go off exploring. Famous for its red sand dunes, the landscape here is remarkable. The lack of traffic make it an ideal spot for cycling.
7. Mud bathing in Nha Trang
Nha Trang is one of the seaside resort hotspots in the country. Hundreds flock here for the magnificent beaches and the warm clear waters. The hot springs here are one of the biggest draws in the area. The hot mud baths are invigorating and fun at the same time. You can immerse your body in the hot mud, relax for an hour or so and then swim in the hot springs to cleanse and invigorate your body. This is nature’s way of pampering yourself.
