Bun Cha Dac Kim
1 Hang Manh St.
Bun Cha is BBQ minced pork served with noodles and veggies. It’s a famous Vietnamese dish, and the place to get it is Bun Cha Dac Kim. Avoid it at lunchtime, because it can get crowded! But that’s just a testament to the taste and service– locals and tourists alike head there for the best Bun Cha in the city.

Bun Bo Nam Bo
67 Hang Dieu
If you want to rub shoulders with the locals, then here’s a great place to do it. Bun Bo Nam Bo serves bun bo, which is grilled beef with noodles and fresh veggies. It’s a simple dish, but a classic favorite.
Pho Gia Truyen
49 Bat Dan
This place may not look like much, but haven’t you heard that looks can be deceiving? This is the spot to try pho, which is quite possibly the most famous Vietnamese meal. Their pho bo, beef with noodles, is particularly delicious. It’s often crowded, so just head on in, make yourself heard, and grab a table to slurp down your delicious noodles.
Food Street
Tong Duy Tan St.
Head over to Food Street in the evening to sample a little bit of everything. Food Street is the aptly named road that has the most street food stalls in Hanoi. You’ll wander the street carts, pick what looks good to you, and soon enough you’ll be sitting on the road in a rickety plastic chair next to a local munching down on true Vietnamese food. You can’t ask for a more authentic experience (or a better price!).
Cha Ca La Vong
14 Cha Ca St.
Any list of must-visit places of Hanoi is going to mention Cha Ca La Vong. It has even been listed in the 1000 Places to See Before You Die books. Set in the heart of the Old Quarter, Cha Ca La Vong is the one-hundred year old restaurant where the very popular dish by the same name was first created. Cha ca is a tasty meal of flaky white fish fillets with turmeric and dill, and this is by far the most famous place to try it.
Quan An Ngon
18 Phan Boi Chau St.
34 Phan Dinh Phung St.
B2-R4 Vincom Mega Mall Royal City
25T2 Hoang Dao Thuy St.
With several locations to choose from, Quan An Ngon is a great place for someone who is new to Vietnamese food. They offer a little bit of everything with quick service and a good atmosphere. They have many stalls serving traditional meals set up in a gardened terrace, so you can try whatever strikes your fancy without the hubbub of a street stall.
59 Van Mieu St.
If you want to eat delicious food while supporting a great cause, check out KOTO. At KOTO they teach street children important life skills so they can build successful lives for themselves. Children taken into the program are given English lessons and learn about hospitality and cooking. Once they are through the program they are often hired by many of the best restaurants and hotels in Vietnam. KOTO stands for “Know One, Teach One,” and represents the restaurant’s philosophy.
But this isn’t just about a wonderful program– they also serve up fantastic meals! They offer Asian fusion foods with friendly service and a lively atmosphere.
Bobby Chinn’s
77 Xuan Dieu St
Bobby Chinn is Hanoi’s own celebrity chef, and you can quickly understand why he shot to stardom when you try his food. Bobby Chinn’s offers a gorgeous atmosphere of silken lounges and glowing lanterns and serves up a variety of Western and Vietnamese meals. Be ready for lots of courses and large portions, so make sure you’re hungry!
The Gourmet Corner
32 Lo Su St.
The Gourmet Corner is a great place if you want fine dining at a reasonable price. It’s located at the top of the Essence Hotel, and has a beautiful view over the city and Hoan Kiem Lake. It is ranked the top restaurant in the city for vegetarians– they consider vegetarian dishes to be their specialty. They have a wide variety of Vietnamese and Asian-inspired meals, deserts, and drinks– so go when you’re feeling choosy and let them cater to you!
Hotel Metropole
15 Ngo Quyen St.
For a fine dining experience, Hotel Metropole offers three distinct restaurants that have a reputation for excellence. Le Beaulieu is their French styled restaurant. It’s extravagantly decorated and offers excellent service and authentic French cuisine. Spices Garden serves some of the highest quality Vietnamese meals you can find in the city, with indoor or courtyard seating. Angelina is a chic Italian restaurant and lounge. Go for the jazzy atmosphere and enjoy the award-winning food.
As an added and particularly noteworthy bonus, the hotel’s Club Bar offers a truly delectable chocolate buffet every day from 3pm to 5pm.
Hanoi is a foodie’s paradise, so this is only a small taste of what’s available in the city. Try these out to start, and then go explore the streets and alleys to find your own new favorite. Happy eating!
